Ms. Trina S. Newton
As the superintendent of schools, my responsibilities are many and multifaceted. First and foremost, I am responsible for the safety our students. The importance of providing a secure learning environment for Geneva’s children cannot be stressed enough.
I have oversight of our school administrators and supervisory staff, as well as instructional and support personnel in the district. I am also responsible for recommending the appointment of new personnel and ensuring that current employees receive any necessary training or staff development.
I am the primary point of contact for the school board and, as such, must keep them informed about our schools and act as liaison between the board’s members and district employees. Doing so includes ensuring that school board meetings cover necessary and helpful facts and reports needed for informed decision making. The next step is then overseeing the execution of any and all board decisions. I also develop, recommend and implement long-range plans consistent with our education mission.
Further responsibilities include remaining abreast of education trends on the local, state and federal level and ensuring that all laws, rules and regulations related to education are enforced. Supervising the maintenance of school records — financial, business, scholastic and more — also falls to me.
I am also the primary spokesperson for the school and must make sure the public is kept informed of education matters, policies and school events. This includes regular contact with the press, community groups and individuals in Geneva.
