Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Lorraine Knifley

Hello Geneva, my name is Lorraine Knifley, and I am the new Director of Head Start. I am a passionate educator with over thirteen years of teaching and leadership experience with the Geneva City School District, committed to student success. I am a lifelong learner who establishes positive relationships with colleagues, staff, students, and the community. I am honored to be a part of the Geneva City School District’s administrative team.

I firmly believe that early childhood education is the foundation for a successful future. As an educational leader, I understand that maintaining strong relationships with families and forming partnerships with community members is critical to removing students’ obstacles and enhancing what our school district can provide. The true essence of a whole-child approach is that every child needs to be healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged in every school and community.  I believe now, more than ever, that the world needs citizens who are critical thinkers, compassionate, open-minded, and resilient change agents who live lives of consequence.

My educational background includes a Certificate in Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Oswego, a master’s degree in reading and literacy from Walden University, and a degree in Public Policy from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. I began working for the Geneva City School District and have had various teaching experiences, including teaching students with disabilities, English as a New Language, the dual language program, and general education. I held several leadership roles within the district, which included team leader, mentor, and summer school principal, before becoming the Director of Head Start.

My husband and I have two grown children who graduated from Geneva High and a dog named Rico.
