  • (Look under Unit 2 link on the left for more information)

The first humans appeared over 2 million years ago. The first humans were nomadic hunters and gatherers. They survived using simple tools created from their natural environment (stone, bone, wood).  However, the Neolithic Revolution brought dramatic changes. With the development of farming population rose, permanent settlements emerged, and specialization of labor began to take shape. Over time, these early settlements became more sophisticated and grew into civilizations. The earliest of these sophisticated civilizations emerged in river valleys. They developed unique political, social, and economic systems to satisfy their needs.
