Theme: Geographic Factors
Geographic factors often play a major role in a nation’s historical, political, social or economic development.
Using your knowledge of Global History and Geography,
Select three geographic factors and for each factor identify a nation or region where this factor exists
Discuss how the factor has either a positive or negative effect on the historical, political, social or economic development of the nation or region. (You must use a different nation or region for each factor).
DO NOT USE the United States in your answer.
You may use any geographic factor studied in Global History. Some factors you may with to consider are island location, monsoons, mountain range, plains, rain forest, desert, and river system. You are not limited to these suggestions.

- Identify two ancient civilizations from your study of global history.
- Describe how the ancient civilizations were influenced by their geographical surroundings.

You may use any geographic feature from your study of global history.
Some suggestions you might wish to consider include: Egypt (Nile River Valley, Mesopotamia (Tigris/Euphrates Rivers), China (Himalayan Mountains, Yellow River Pacific Ocean), Greece (Archipelago), or any other ancient civilization you chose.
Geographic factors have affected the development of nations and regions. These factors have also promoted or hindered cultural diffusion.
Select two different geographic factors and for each
- Explain how the geographic factor affected the development of a specific nation/region
- Discuss how that geographic factor promoted or hindered cultural diffusion
You may use any geographic factor from your study of global history. Some suggestions you might wish to consider include deserts, rivers, mountains, plains, islands, irregular coastlines, straits, climate, and location.
You are not limited to these suggestions.
