K–12 Registration Process

  • Phase 1

Contact our registrar, Toscinia Elliott-Monclova, at (315) 781-0400 ext. 1502 to schedule an appointment with Central Registration.  At this appointment, you will be asked to provide the following:

    • Birth certificate, passport, certificate of baptism, or other acceptable proof of age
    • Proof of residency
    • Immunization records
    • Previous school contact information, including name, address, and phone number
    • Recent physical form
    • Custody papers (if applicable)

*Please keep in mind accurate information from your previous school is very crucial to the registration process. Applications will be considered incomplete until all documentation listed has been provided.

Completion of a registration packet to include:

    • Registration data form
    • Health office questionnaire
    • Home language questionnaire
    • Transportation request
    • Emergency dismissal sheet
    • Attendance information sheet
    • Internet Policy and permission slip
    • Mandatory meal program packet
    • McKinney-Vento

It is necessary that you call the Nurse of the school your student is attending before they start school. She will ask about any health concerns, allergies, and regularly prescribed medications and make sure all immunizations are up to date. A child cannot start school without meeting New York State immunization requirements.

You will find the phone numbers enclosed. You must provide proof of a physical. Physicals are good for one year.

    Phase 2

The student’s previous records will be requested by central registration on the date of registration.  Please keep in mind that we cannot move forward until these records are sent. Central registration will send along necessary paperwork to transportation, cafeteria, nurse, technology, pupil personnel services, and guidance upon receipt of records.

Once all records are received, administration and the guidance department will review the student’s school records.

    Phase 3

Once all records are obtained, and registration is complete at the middle and high school, you will receive a call from the guidance office to meet with a counselor and set up a schedule. At this appointment, they will let you know your student’s actual start date.

Once all records are obtained, and registration is complete in the elementary grades, you will receive a call from the school informing you of your child’s classroom assignment and official start date.

If transportation has been requested, you will receive a call from the transportation department stating your child’s bus number, pickup time, drop-off time, and the first date transportation will be provided. Please keep in mind the transportation department requires two days from receipt of paperwork to start a student on a route, so alternate transportation may need to be provided until your student is started on a route. All kindergarten students are offered a bus to and from school.

    Special Ed Evaluation

Parents/guardians have the right to request an evaluation of their child for the purposes of special education services or programs. This request must be made in writing and submitted to:

    Director of Student Services
    101 Carter Road
    Geneva, NY 14456

For further information about the special education programs and the rights of students and parents in New York State, parents should refer to the New York State Education Department website (www.nysed.gov) and “A Parent’s Guide to Special Education,” which can be located there.

The goal of Geneva City School District is to strive for a three-day service from the completion of the registration process. With accurate information, cooperation from previous schools, and complete documentation provided, we should be able to have your child back in the classroom within that timeframe. Provided there are several contact numbers and addresses for your reference, and you are welcome to browse this website for additional school information. If, during any phase of the registration, you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the central registration department. Together we can make this a smooth and pleasant transition!
