Voter Eligibility

Eligibility

To be eligible to vote you must be:

  • A resident of the Geneva City School District for at least 30 days
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A citizen of the United States
  • Registered to vote; you are registered to vote if you were
    • Registered for the last general election
    • Registered under permanent personal registration

Registering to Vote

To obtain permanent personal registration, you may contact the Ontario County Board of Elections at (585) 396-4005.

Absentee Ballots

If you are unable to vote in person on the day of the school budget vote and school board election, you may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot.

Who can apply for an absentee ballot?

You may qualify if you:

  • Are ill or have a physical disability
  • Will be out of town for work, business, school, or vacation
  • Are detained in jail awaiting trial or serving time for a non-felony offense
  • Will be caring for or accompanying a spouse, parent, or child who qualifies for one of the above reasons

What information is required?

The application asks for:

  • Your name and home address
  • Confirmation that you are a qualified district voter
  • The reason you cannot vote in person

Depending on the reason selected, additional details may be required, such as:

  • Employer or school information
  • Travel dates and destination
  • Details related to your absence from the district

Important deadlines

Absentee ballot applications must be received by the District Clerk:

  • At least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to you, or
  • By the day before the election if you plan to pick up the ballot in person

Completed absentee ballots must be returned by 5 p.m. on the day of the election.
