 SUBJECT: COMMEMORATIVE MEMORIAL

The Board of Education recognizes the importance and benefit of acknowledging outstanding performance or contribution by people associated with the District. Such recognition can be in the form of a Board resolution, a memento awarded to the individual, or other form of recognition deemed suitable by the Board.

The Board believes it is consistent with the concept of community, which is fundamental to successful public schools, that no building, or area within a building, or other District facility should be named for an individual or corporate sponsor for exclusive rights after the adoption of this policy.

Commemorative Plaques

In general, the Board of Education will consider requests to affix a dedication plaque to a District-owned facility, site to be designated by the District, for individuals and groups who have made a significant contribution to the field of education, government, science, or human betterment. To preserve the integrity of all facilities, this honor must be reserved for individuals of recognized accomplishment and character. Consideration will be given to the historical significance of the contribution of the individual or group; the association of the individual or group to the school and community; state, regional, national, or international recognition of the individual or group's contributions and achievements.
