SUBJECT: SCHEDULING AND ROUTING
The safety and welfare of the students will be of paramount importance in carrying out the following policy:
- Transportation will be available for all kindergarten students. Kindergarten students who reside within 0.5 mile from the school they attend may either walk to school or take the school bus. Bus pickup stations will be located 0.5 mile from either of the elementary schools. Transportation will be provided for students in grades one through five who reside more than 0.9 mile from the school they attend, and all students sixth through twelfth grade who reside more than one and one-half (1 ½) miles from the school they attend.
- Transportation for students with disabilities not covered in above, will be provided upon written request of the school physician, the Committee on Special Education and in accordance with law. Such cases will be reviewed annually.
- Transportation for child care will include all accredited day care centers plus in-home caretakers as long as these caretakers provide care for less than 24 hours per day and within the following guidelines:
- The distance for eligibility would be the same in the case of the caretaker as for home residences.
- Transportation will not be limited to within attendance boundaries of individual schools.
- Written requests for this service must be received by August 1st for the next school year or within 30 days of establishing residency.
- Transportation will be maintained on a regularly scheduled basis. The schedule for pick-up and drop-off must be consistent throughout the week.
