Posted Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 —

Silmarie’s Ortiz’s Spanish II classes at the high school kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month today with a sampling of Hispanic cuisine. Ms. Ortiz prepared rice and beans, tostones (fried plantains), and guava paste for her students to try. The celebration lasts from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and overlaps with Independence Day in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.
