Geneva Scholars Academy: District takes a fresh approach to summer school
Posted Friday, May 28, 2021 —
Geneva is giving summer school a makeover this year! Instead of taking a remedial approach and looking backwards at learning gaps, with Geneva Scholars Academy, the district looking forward to what students need for next year.
The GCSD will provide summer programming based on research and best practices that will focus on closing learning gaps, enrich/accelerate student learning, and provide transition programming to prepare students for a successful 2021-2022 school year.
The Geneva Scholars Academy, at all levels, will consist of the following program components:
Targeted Instruction/Credit Recovery: Programs focused on providing students with the opportunity to work on content and close learning gaps or regain credits from the school year.
Enrichment/Acceleration: Programs that allow students to explore topics of interest or a variety of subjects. Programs that also enable students to build knowledge prior to enrolling in advanced coursework
Transition/Bridging Programming: Programs that provide transition preparation at our most critical points in a student's school career.
All programs are proposed to be in-person following all Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Health, and NYS Department of Education guidelines.
Due to COVID restrictions and staffing availability, student seats may be limited in summer programming. In the event that more students register than available seats, priority will be given based on student learning needs. Please return your child’s registration by May 26th.
