Geneva's masking protocol updated

Updated Tuesday, June 8, 2021 —

Gov. Cuomo yesterday issued updated guidance regarding the outdoor use of face masks. Effective yesterday, face masks are not required outdoors on school grounds, including during outdoor sports. We will be following this updated guidance as of today.

Additionally, in light of the heat wave, we would like to note that district-issued window fans are allowed in classrooms as long as they are placed safely and securely in a window, to exhaust room air to the outdoors. This will help draw outdoor air into the room via other open windows and doors. This is based on updated CDC guidance.

The district is aware of the letter that New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker wrote to the CDC regarding relaxed masking requirements for staff and students. At this time, however, we do not have any official guidance from New York State.

We remain in constant communication with the Ontario County administrator and Department of Health director. We will keep you informed as new information is released. If the state does issue updated guidance about masking, we will need to carefully review it before determining next steps. As always, we will act with the best interests of our students and staff in mind.
