Assistant superintendent to take the helm of Jamestown Public Schools

Geneva City School District Assistant Superintendent Kevin Whitaker has accepted a position as superintendent of schools at Jamestown Public Schools in Jamestown, N.Y.
Mr. Whitaker has been assistant superintendent for School Improvement and Accountability in Geneva since 2013.
“This is probably one of the best things that could happen to Jamestown,” said Geneva City School Superintendent Trina Newton. “Kevin is smart, he’s articulate, he’s passionate, he always keeps children first in decision making—it’s a loss for Geneva.”
“It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I am leaving the Geneva City School District to accept the position of superintendent of schools in Jamestown,” said Mr. Whitaker. “I have spent a wonderful seven and a half years here, making connections and building relationships with many people that I will miss dearly. I count myself fortunate to have been a part of a great organization filled with great people, and I hope that my efforts will have contributed to the continued success of our students, our staff, our school district and our community. Geneva is a great place. It is truly unique and will forever hold a special place in my heart. I hope that our paths will cross in the future.”
“The fact that he’s moving from one small city to another says a lot about Kevin as a person,” Ms. Newton added. “Small cities are generally under-resourced, which makes them a challenge. I have a lot of respect for him, not only as a colleague and a professional, but as a person.”
Mr. Whitaker’s last day in the district will be June 30. The district hopes to have his successor in place by July 1.
